Uss ki woh jane usay paas-e-wafa tha ke na tha, Tum faraz apni taraf se to nibhaate jaate..

Agarche zor hawaaon ne daal rakha hai, Magar charaagh ne lau ko sambhaal rakha hai,
Mohabton main to milna hai ya ujad jaana, Mizaaj-e-ishq main kab etidaal rakha hai,
Bhale dinon ka bharosa hi kya rahen na rahe, So maine rishta-e-gham ko bahaal rakha hai,
Bhari bahaar main ik shaakh pr khilaa hai gulaab, Ke jaise tu ne hatheli pe gaal rakha hai,
Faraz ishq ki duniya to khuubsurat thi, Yeh kis ne fitna e hijr o visaal rakha hai..

Har koi dil ki hatheli pe hai sehraa rakhe, Kis ko sairaab kare kise pyaasa rakhe,
Umar bhar kon nibhaata hai taluq itna, Aye meri jaan ke dushman tujhe Allah rakhe,
Hum ko acha nahin lagta koi hum-naam tera, Koi tujh sa ho to naam bhi tujh sa rakhe,
Dil bhi pagal hai ke uss shakss se wabasta hai, Jo kisi aur ka hone de na apna rakhe,
Hanss na itna bhi faqeeron ke akele pan pr, Ja khuda meri tarah tujh ko bhi tanhaa rakhe,
Yeh qanaat hai itaaat hai ke chahat hai Faraz, Hum to raazi hain woh jis haal main jesa rakhe..

Aur faraz chahiyen kitni mohabbten tujh ko, Maaon ne tere naam pr bachon ka naam rakh diya..

Ab is shauq se ke jaan se guzar jana chahiye, Bol ae havaa-e-sheher kidhar jana chahiye,
Kab tak isi ko aakhri manzil kahen ge hum, Kuu-e-muraad se bhi udhar jana chahiye,
Woh waqt aa geya hai ke saahil ko chorr kar, Gehre samundron main utar jana chahiye,
Ab raftagaan ki baat nahin kaarvaan ki hai, Jiss samt bhi ho gard-e-safar jaana chahiye,
Ya apni khawhishon ko muqaddass na jaante, Ya khawhishon ke saath hi mar jaana chahiye..

Yeh kya ke sab se beyaan dil ki haalaten karni, Faraz tujh ko na aayin muhabbaten karni,
Yeh qurb kya hai ke tu saamne hai aur humen, Shumaar abhi se judaayi ki saaaten karni,
Koi khudaa ho ke pathar jise bhi hum chahen, Tamaam umr ussi ki ibaadaten karni,
Sab apne apne qareene se muntazir us ke, Kisi ko shukr kisi ko shikaayaten karni,
Hum apne dil se hi majboor aur logon ko, Zara si baat pe barpaa qayamaten karni,
Milen jab un se to mubham si guftaguu karna, Phir apne aap se sau sau vazaahten karni,
Yeh log kaise magar dushmani nibhaate hain, Humen to raas na aayin mohabbaten karni,
Kabhi ‘faraz’ naye mausmon me ro dena, Kabhi talaash puraani rafaaqten karni..

Chalo ke kuucha-e-dildaar chal ke dekhte hain, Kise kise hai yeh aazaar chal ke dekhte hain,
Suna hai aesa maseeha kahin se aaya hai, Ke us ko sheher ke bemaar chal ke dekhte hain,
Hum apne but ko, zulekha liye hai yusuf ko, Hai kon ronak-e-bazar chal ke dekhte hain,
Uss aik shakss ko dekho to aankh bharti nahin, Uss aik shakss ko har baar chal ke dekhte hain,
Woh mere ghar ka kare qassd jab to saaye se, Kayi qadam dar-o-deewaar chal ke dekhte hain,
Faraz aseer hai us ka ke woh faraz ka hai, Hai kon kis ka giraftaar chal ke dekhte hain..

Us ko juda huye bhi zamana bohat hua, Ab kya kahen yeh qissa purana bohat hua,
Dhalti na thi kisi bhi jatan se shab-e-firaq, Ae marg e na-gahaan tera aana bohat hua,
Hum khuld se nikal to gaye hain pr ae khuda, Itne se waaqiye ka fasaana bohat hua,
Ab hum hain aur saare zamaane ki dushmani, Iss aashiqi main jaan se jana bohat hua,
