• Iqbal Ashar was born on 26 October 1965 in Kucha Chelan, Delhi, India.

  • His family roots trace back to Amroha, Western Uttar Pradesh.

  • For education, he attended Shanta Nursery School, then Ramjas School No.1 (Daryaganj, Delhi) for his early schooling, and later obtained a B.A. (Honours) in Urdu from Zakir Husain Delhi College.

  • Iqbal Ashar began his public poetic journey in 1998, participating in all-India “mushaira” (poetry symposiums), under the early guidance of late Mauj Rampuri.

  • Over time, he has been supported and encouraged by several prominent Urdu poets such as Wasim Barelvi, Rahat Indori, Anwar Jalalpuri, Meraj Faizabadi and Munawwar Rana.

  • His reach extends far beyond Delhi — he has recited poetry across many Indian districts and internationally in countries such as USA, UK, UAE, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Pakistan and more.
